About Film

Hakan and his wife Selda have left their academic lives in Istanbul and settled in Foça. Things they knew about the land were purely academical. Later, they learnt the land and olives. From the olive gardens they bought 12 years ago, they have now managed to make a wine brand and an olive house where every kind of production is made. Organic and authentic Foça wine and olive production have now turned into a large facility. What seems like a success story is not actually something that ‘I took the chances and it happened’. It is the story of the union of the land with great patience and great effort.

Movie Quotes
Selda: “When I first came here, it was nice but then the summer had gone and the winter came, everybody retreated to their homes. It became so quite here and not promising for me. I mean I couldn’t practice my job as a teacher. I couldn’t get used to it. I had been having difficulties for
a long time. Sometimes I woke up in the morning and questioned myself
about what we were doing here. I did that for a long time.
Hakan: “She questioned herself by crying.”
Selda: “Like what are we doing here, what will it happen, how long can we…
carry on like this? We didn’t have a job. I didn’t want to turn back but it seemed like we wouldn’t make it here either.
Hakan: “Our parents thought that it was going to be bad when we came here.
Actually, they got worried. “You have your jobs, what are you
doing by leaving it? Everybody wants to move to city, you want
the opposite way.” Right? Selda’s parents got worried more,
I guess. Because she also changed cities by coming to İzmir.”
Selda: My father was telling me that here, it ain’t heaven either.
He was asking me what I was expecting. I told that I would have a much easier life. Then he askedif the bread is cheaper there. “What will you do? Bread costs the same wherever you go in Turkey.” For them, we studied and had our jobs, everything was going well. They were feeling at ease, they weren’t worried about us, about me.
Purpose, Approach

With their structuring, crowd and chaos making our lives a torture most of the time, are big cities our only alternatives? Can there be a conscious and preferred country life in our country too? Is it possible to live without being apart from the nature or being carried away by the consumption frenzy? Can there be an urban farmer? Are all these running away from the city, these pursuits a kind of trend? We think aloud with the people whose lives we witness. We are reconsidering the cities we live in. We ask if it is possible to build a new living space with our own color and shape apart from the models that are presented to us.

In a world where everything is constructed upon the urban life are these life trials utopic?

In our narration which we used the witness method basically, we will have questions that we seek answers. Is it possible for people who have spent so much time in big cities to get rid of this urbanism that stick on them?

The work done is very important but how and what is the source of the responses of practical life?

How do people who have little or no contact with the nature have a start in the country? Is this a reunion or just a struggle with the nature? Is the word ‘it’s not the nature that needs us but we need the nature’ valid in every situation?

Is it possible for the ones who fought or struggled with the nature all the time and had a public memory to have another relationship in an instant?

Our film focuses on the ones who leave the city in order to ‘have a collective life in the country’. Although we take a stand with the ‘another life is possible’ idea, our attitude to these stories do not show it. In these life style trials, we not only witness the things created but also show the things that do not work or contradict.
